Donuts

This is a recipe I got from my sister in law, Sue who got it from her sister Mickey.  BUT, I completely claim it as my own now!!  It is a tradition for Halloween, and was a tradition for multiple years at girl’s camp in Northern Japan.

Dough:

  • 1½ cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tsp salt
  • ½ cup warm water
  • ½ cup oil
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 7 ½ cup flour
  • 2 TBL yeast

Scald milk in pan.  Add sugar, salt, oil.  Cool for about 15 minutes.   Combine 3 cups of flour and yeast, adding it to the milk/oil mixture.  Beat until well mixed.  Add the eggs and beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour.  Knead for 10 minutes.  Cover an let raise 1 full hour.  Punch down, roll out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into donut shapes.  Place on a greased baking sheet.  Let rise 45 min.  Heat oil to 375.  Deep fry 1-2 minutes per side.  Flip over.  Dip in glaze.

Glaze:

  • 2 cups pwd sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla.
