This is a recipe I got from my sister in law, Sue who got it from her sister Mickey. BUT, I completely claim it as my own now!! It is a tradition for Halloween, and was a tradition for multiple years at girl’s camp in Northern Japan.
Dough:
- 1½ cups milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp salt
- ½ cup warm water
- ½ cup oil
- ½ cup sugar
- 7 ½ cup flour
- 2 TBL yeast
Scald milk in pan. Add sugar, salt, oil. Cool for about 15 minutes. Combine 3 cups of flour and yeast, adding it to the milk/oil mixture. Beat until well mixed. Add the eggs and beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour. Knead for 10 minutes. Cover an let raise 1 full hour. Punch down, roll out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into donut shapes. Place on a greased baking sheet. Let rise 45 min. Heat oil to 375. Deep fry 1-2 minutes per side. Flip over. Dip in glaze.
Glaze:
- 2 cups pwd sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla.
